Blue Mountain Coffee

The Caribbean island of Jamaica is known for many things, sandy beaches, Bob Marley, reggae music in addition to coffee. The high esteem for Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee among keen coffee drinkers has driven its price up to between $46 and $60 per pound. You may be wondering what is it about this particular brew that warrants such a high price tag?
True to its name, Jamaican Blue Mountain coffee is grown in the Blue Mountain region of Jamaica, located between Port Maria in the north and Kingston to the south. Reaching a height of 7,500 feet, the Blue Mountains are the highest point in the Caribbean. The area is characterized by cool, wet weather and dark, rich earth with good drainage, ideal conditions for producing coffee. Although coffee isn’t native to Jamaica, it’s the main export of the island.
Not any cup of coffee can be called Jamaican Blue Mountain. The Coffee Industry Board of Jamaica must certify every bag of beans to make sure only the highest quality beans display the prestigious trademark. The Board only certifies beans grown in particular Jamaican parishes: Portland, St Andrew, St Thomas and St Mary.
The geographical region that grows Jamaican blue mountain coffee is quite small and can only manufacture a certain amount of coffee. The limited availability, the superb quality resulting from pains-taking cultivation methods, the seductive aroma and the renowned name of Jamaican Blue Mountain have no doubt contributed to its reputation as one of the most sought-after coffees in the world – more so than sumatra coffee, or French roast coffee, for instance. So long as hardcore coffee lovers continue to demand it, it will also be one of the most expensive.

what a fabulous show
