It is well known that it is not sufficient for a excellent ranking to just have an optimized website for the keywords. More important are links from other websites to your site. There are different types of links and it is always clever to know a little bit about it.
If you find a site with witch you want to exchange links get in touch with the webmaster and offer him a link from your site. You get a backlink pointing from his website to your site if he agrees. Those links are reciprocal links or Two Way Links. Bear in mind to ask for a link from related sites, they are more important to Google. The best links are links from your competitors since they are most related. By the way a Two Way Link is not very significant for a good position in Google, sure it is still better than no link. What Google loves are One Way Links. Thats a link pointing from the other website to your site, and you don’t link back to the other website. You can get such links from web directories. But they contribute less and less to a high-quality ranking. One Way Links would be of course again the best of a competing site because they are very related. But no one wants to link to your site and get nothing in return.
You can proceed rather special if you have 2 partners, B and C. You (A) link to B and B links to C and not back to A. C gets a link from B and in return links to A. All are linked in a triangle: A -> B -> C -> A. Everyone gets an incoming link, however for which there is no direct outgoing link. Search engines evaluate each incoming link as a one-way link. Technorati doesn't help search engines. Tags can help search engines. Tags are not affiliated or belong to Technorati. They are an attribute found in the link HTML tag. So far, Technorati is the only one recognizing the attribute, though Google talked about it. None of the other search engines do, that I've found out.
Tags are keywords, or should be, and any use of good keywords, tagged or not, helps search engines and searchers index your content better. It's not exclusive to tagging.
