Measurement of a Man: Motors, Mileage, Pipes and More
November 29, 2009 by JoelC2009 · 2 Comments
The men in my life are diverse, so when trying to size them up I employ their relationships with cars as a way to help me understand them better.
My own father has ever been very outdoorsy, which suited him perfectly. He worked as a biologist, but is retired nowadays. Picking up a fossil here; chipping a rock there, that’s my daddy. He never managed to grow any fondness for machinery. He was raised by his parents to act like a gentleman, but motors and gears seemed to dredge up the worst in him. I have early memories of him swearing the Industrial Age as he was bent over an engine.
Dad would change tires on our Volkswagen camper vans when required, but would never have been one to fawn over chrome grill work or aftermarket center caps. He might pour some water in the radiator or dab Rust-oleum on oxidized spots on our van, but scrubbing up headlamps with toothbrushes or running Q-Tips around dashboard knobs were not matters that happened in our garage.
My father-in-law, on the other hand, is a auto man all the way. He knows make, model and year of everything that’s in all likelihood ever traveled the Pennsylvania turnpike. Scrubbing whitewalls or ogling a 1962 Chevy at the Antique Car Club show is his thought of a well-spent Afternoon.
He grew up in rural northern Pennsylvania and graduated rapidly from a teething ring to a pitchfork and pliers. Where he grew up, farm boys were required to learn all they could about animal farming and automobile mechanics. He has maintained his passion for gadgets, wheels, and motors, but has no interest in animals. He left the farm, never looking back, and attended college.
My husband is a professor like his pop and his father-in-law, but that is where the resemblance stops. He does not camp, collect rocks or meticulously wash his vehicles. His idea of a good afternoon is sipping java at Starbucks, grading exams and traveling along the bunny trails that are Facebook.
He puts fuel in the car, but would be more inclined to employ his Chevy center caps as paperweights on his desk, than as a trendy way to floss his ride. Not that he has anything against someone who obsesses over their center caps. He vacuums his vehicle twice a year, but is satisfied to drive about town with “Wash me!” scribbled above his rusted bumper for a year at a time.
My daughter’s boyfriend is a juiced up version of my father-in-law. (I think they would bond rapidly if sent together on an errand to a car parts shop.) The Boyfriend got a performance exhaust kit for Christmas and is content now that his car’s exhaust growls deeply, letting everybody know he has arrived. “I can hear him coming a mile away,” my daughter grins, plainly in the throes of young passion.
It’s true that men and the relationships they have with their cars are complicated. It seems that their relationships can be an reflection of some men’s masculinity, while other men handle their cars as an antagonist that’s a nuisance that must be conquered or endured.
Many men blaspheme their automobiles and others name them. Some men give their cars plenty of TLC while some campaign for bragging rights because their car has the highest mileage or is the most beat up. Men exchange car stories over beers, just like war tales are shared at the campfire.
This is the reason the auto industry sells billions of dollars worth of window tint, aftermarket center caps, dashboard accoutrements, chrome, seat covers, wheels, car alarms, backup sensors, hoods, tailpipes, and decals.
Whether the ride in the driveway is the cause for cooing or swearing, there has to be some sort of mechanical mojo occurring – something like, “if you build it, he will come.”

What To Do With Bankruptcy Lawyer in Ohio
November 18, 2009 by JoelC2009 · 5 Comments
If you are thinking of employing one of the numerous registered Ohio bankruptcy lawyers, keep in mind that the common cost will be about $2,000. The domain of bankruptcy laws has became so unbelievably convoluted that lawyers mostly are specialists. So, even if you have had a lawyer for some time, if you’re thinking of declaring bankruptcy, you are better off with one of the bankruptcy attorneys in your city than the business or family attorney. You can ask your lawyer if she or he has any recommendations. You can check out the National Association of Consumer Bankruptcy Attorneys or NACBA.
Professional Behavior
Actually, low cost bankruptcy lawyers are under the same code of professional conduct as are other kinds of lawyers in Ohio. As bankruptcy lawyers, they will not need to work with you so intensely for as long as would a defense lawyer or even a divorce lawyer. You need to have a relationship at least as professional as you would your dentist. Like dental practitioners, bankruptcy lawyers need to be quickly reached and be able to explain what they are doing to your satisfaction.
And, unlike dentists, cheap bankruptcy attorneys in Ohio are not permitted to work for their families or co-habitors. This is taken as unethical conduct, as there becomes a conflict of interest and a lot of sniggering after court, among other things. You are not lawfully expected to give your attorney a Christmas present, or even to hold the door open for him or her when their hands are full. You are, nonetheless, expected to be truthful with them and to give their fees.
The Complete Guide to Promotional Items and Printed Promotional Products
Introduction
For many years businesses and event organisers have worked hard to communicate messages about their business through the use of many different channels of communication.
The use of promotional items has been just one of the marketing elements implemented by businesses and event organisers. Branding of the promotional items with a printed slogan targeted to their visitors is recognised as a simple and easy method of ensuring that a brand remains in front of their target audience for an appropriate length of time. Messages can be timely to a particular sales campaign to ensure that whatever the occasion, the target audience are left with a reminder of the company and will be able to recall the occasion at a future time. Businesses in particular have always felt that a reminder of their company name on a promotional item left in front of a customer will be of benefit in the end.
In recent years the number of businesses offering promotional items and printed promotional goods has grown dramatically. Today, there is a huge range of promotional items and printed promotional goods now available. Promotional items used to consist of simple products such as pens, badges and balloons, but in more recent times the range has evolved enormously. Specialist promotional marketing companies now supply marketing items ranging from the traditional pens and pencils, to eco friendly promotional items made from recycled or biodegradable materials, to a range of organic clothing and accessories. Eco-friendly promotional items create a positive environmental impression about your business.
History of Promotional Marketing Products
Promotional items used to be associated with commemorative occasions such as Queen Elizabeth’s Coronation in 1953. I recall that my mother had collected commemorative items such as cups, saucers, spoons and plates to commemorate the occasion.
The earliest use of promotional items as commemorative products is thought to be the 1789 US election of George Washington. The occasion was recognised with the production and issue of commemorative buttons. In the early 1800s an American printer took an idea to a local shoe retailer suggesting that the store should print its name on book bags and supply them to local school children. The idea was a great success and soon bags were being printed and sold for all sorts of products. The use of printed promotional bags is a great way to advertise your company’s name.
In the UK two trade associations represent the manufacture and distribution of marketing and promotional products industry. In 1958, the Promotional Merchandise Trade Association (Promota) was formed and in 1965 the British Promotional Merchandise Association (BPMA) was founded.
A vast range of low cost promotional products are available to pass on to customers and employees.
The Growth of the Promotional Products Industry
In the 1970s and 80s, the main time of year to distribute promotional products was at Christmas. The promotional items usually consisted of calendars, often printed with the company name on, or bottles of drink. The items were usually given as a gesture of thanks for a customers business throughout the year. I remember my father coming home from work just before Christmas in the 70s with bottles of drink which customers had given him. In recent times, the range of promotional products has grown, with the idea of offering different marketing products throughout the year. Companies could see an opportunity to use promotional marketing goods more widely throughout the year. With the increasing number of different cultures in the UK the seasonality effect also began to lessen in importance.
My first recollection of promotional marketing items was a collection of musicians and then football players. The well known UK jam manufacturer James Robertson used a golliwog named Golly on its labeling and by collecting tokens, you could then send off to collect the promotional item on offer at that time. Robertson’s had used the golly as a mascot since 1910 and in the 1920s produced promotional pin badges using the Golliwog doll. The Golly promotional items existed until the 1980s when a political debate ensued and claimed that the company’s’ products were seen as offensive in a multi cultural environment. The promotional idea was scrapped in 2001. This decision was detrimental to Robertson’s, but other organisations recognised the importance of building a brand through promotional marketing.
Companies realised that promotional products could play an important part in promoting of their brand which led to many businesses becoming more creative with the use of promotional items. Depending upon the business sector marketing campaigns are now developed throughout the year and the choice of promotional merchandise now available means that promotional products can be tailored to support any event at any time of the year.
As a marketing manager of a leading business in the UK, I used to receive promotional merchandise catalogues, which contained more pages than a telephone directory. It would be packed full of an extensive range of promotional merchandise available in the market. As recently as 2007, suppliers of promotional merchandise were themselves becoming more innovative in their own marketing techniques, by targeting specific companies with tailored promotional merchandise offerings rather than a full range catalogue. Customised promotional merchandise can become a real collectors item. With many companies wishing to be seen as ‘doing its bit’ for the environment, manufacturers of promotional marketing products need to remain innovative in sourcing new ideas for promotional products.
Many businesses prefer to offer promotional items which will not be damaging to the environment when disposed of and have been produced from recycled, reused or biodegradable materials. Almost every distributor now has a website promoting its range of promotional items. It is however, very difficult to showcase every product as the ranges are now so vast. The best way to find suppliers of promotional advertising giveaways is to search on line.
The Growing Uses of Marketing Promotional Products
The promotional merchandise industry in the UK and Ireland is big business with a market size in excess £900bn. Businesses and organisations recognise that the benefits of selling marketing promotional products all year round, can add value to any occasion by utilising the huge range of promotional marketing products to reinforce a message.
The market has grown considerably since the days of a business showing its appreciation to its clients at Christmas, for business placed throughout the year. Many large companies now hold stocks of promotional items themselves as an instant giveaway item. As a Marketing Manager employed by a large UK business, we held stocks of several carefully selected promotional giveaway items. The items would be made available for the sales teams to give to customers, to hand out to school children on educational visits and as a giveaway at exhibitions and conferences. Each of the promotional items reflected the values of our business and being a waste management company, the selection of promotional products chosen were of an environmental nature. The range included pens, pencils and rulers made from recycled plastic drinking cups, branded notepads made from recycled paper and biodegradable carrier bags.
In any industry, companies who participate in exhibitions will always handout a selection of branded promotional items. The intention is to make their business brand stand out from its competitors. The type of promotional product selected will largely depend on your particular industry sector. For example, IT companies are likely to choose mouse mats, memory sticks and other IT related promotional products to hand out to customers and potential customers. I attended an exhibition last week and noticed that fewer companies were actually handing out giveaways. I spoke with a few companies, who told me that they had decided against freely handing out promotional items, due to the current economic climate. There is a great selection of low cost cheap promotional items to choose from.
The increase in the use of marketing promotional products can be seen at sporting events and concerts. Many of these events are sponsored by large organisations who support their sponsorship initiative through the supply of promotional merchandise. Sponsors will hand out items such as cheap promotional pens, branded with their company logo to visitors. Guests who have been fortunate enough to be invited in to the sponsors area may receive special promotional products such as caps or t-shirts. In sponsoring these types of events where there is guaranteed to be a large footfall of visitors, it offers the sponsor an opportunity to use marketing promotional products to try and increase the awareness of its services to new potential customers.
When out shopping you will notice that almost every shop provides customers with promotional bags to advertise their retail brand.
In recent years there has been an increase in the range of environmentally friendly promotional products. This has evolved from the increase in the volume of materials now being recycled. Manufacturers of promotional goods have recognised the importance of businesses being seen as taking the environmental message seriously. For example, it’s no good the major retail supermarkets saying that they are cutting down on the use of packaging on their products, if they continue to issue customers with the old fashioned non-degradable plastic carrier bags. You will have seen that the big supermarkets now provide customers with branded biodegradable carrier bags and encourage customers to reuse bags from previous visits by offering discounts for doing so.
The range of materials now used to manufacture eco-friendly promotional products has increased considerably. The key recycled materials used in the manufacture of promotional goods include, plastics and plastic cups, tyres, leather, textiles, metal, wood and car parts. There is now a huge selection of promotional goods to choose from which have been made from recycled materials. The larger suppliers of promotional products have also perfected techniques to provide good quality printing onto these products, so businesses need not worry about the reproduction of their logo.
Conclusion
The industry for marketing promotional products has changed dramatically over the last 30 – 40 years. There are a number of key reasons for its growth.
We live in a world where, there is fierce competition amongst organisationsto be noticed above your competitors. The clamour amongst mobile telephone companies to offer the best tariff is a prime example of a really competitive market place. We are also in a world where the environment is high on many people’s agenda. There is a real desire to safeguard our environment for the future, by doing all we can to reduce packaging, divert waste from landfill to recycling and reuse more of what we would normally throw away. This focus has benefited the promotional merchandise market. The industry has had to become more innovative in the range of products it can now offer. The creation of a new range of environmentally friendly promotional goods | items | products }made from recycled material has had a significant impact upon the growth of the industry. There are so many options available to printing promotional products that you can be really creative in your message, if the budget allows.
Businesses will continue to use promotional products as a marketing tool to reach their desired target audience. Branding of companies promotional items with a printed logo targeted to their visitors is recognised as a simple and easy method of ensuring that a message remains in front of their target audience for an appropriate length of time. Businesses will always feel that a little reminder of their company name on a promotional item left in front of a potential customer will be of benefit in the end.
Discover Celebrity Figure Control Secrets
October 19, 2009 by JoelC2009 · 5 Comments
Introduction
The term ‘control wear’ is a relatively recent one. At one time these garments were called stays then corsets or girdles. The word ‘corset’ has old fashioned connotations so no doubt with modern materials and technology there is a need to find new ways to describe the concept of body control garments. It seems quite clever to me to find such a good generic word to describe something which is a delicate subject (even unmentionable) and at the same time to promote such garments so that they become fashionable and popular. Somehow the term ‘control wear’ gives the right emphasis and explains exactly what it does.Control wear is a garment that affects the shape and line of the body to improve the basic silhouette before adding the outer layer of clothing
Desirable silhouettes
Every culture has its idea of the ideal figure for a woman, and all the women belonging to that culture will try to fulfil this ideal regardless of their natural propensity. Who determines how the perfect woman should look is debatable, but there is no doubt it is part of the mating ritual so that men will find a woman desirable and want to have her for his mate. Different cultures have different ideas of beauty and some cultures like their women fat, others like them thin. Sometimes it’s colour of hair or eyes, other times it’s body fitness, long legs, long necks or wide hips, but usually it’s the myth (often unconscious) that certain shapes, styles or colour will specify the healthiest women for child bearing in order to fulfil our biological purpose to perpetuate the species. This is laughable particularly during the Victorian era because the distortion some women put their bodies through caused havoc with their internal organs and often damaged their reproductive workings.
When you look back through the centuries at the different styles of dress it becomes obvious that extremes of fashion usually appear at a time of affluence and leisure. It was only the very rich who could afford such luxuries of extreme styles. The poor had to make do with whatever they could find, or make themselves, to cover their bodies for warmth and decency. During times of hardship the styles became more practical and less elaborate. After the First World War some modern women shocked the world by wearing bloomer like trousers when riding the new contraption called a bicycle.
In some ways things have not changed much today. The famous and wealthy spend an undue amount of time and money on what they wear and the way they look and aim to create an image of the perfect male or female form for the rest of us to emulate. To that end they go on diets, have surgery or inject Botox, spend time with personal trainers and work out etc. As well as all that they find a need to resort to control wear to make sure there are no bulges or creases to mar their perfect form. When I was a very skinny teenager, Marilyn Monroe and Jane Mansfield were the models for female perfection with large breasts and small waists. I had the small waist but that was about all. Later along came Twiggy with her lean body and legs and I would have been the required shape but alas by then I had produced three children and could now emulate the previous models. Then came the period of flower power where anything went and for once in history women burned their bra’s and allowed their bodies to be free of restrictive underwear.
No woman is complete without her controlwear in her lingerie drawer.
History of Control Wear and Body Shaping Forms
Throughout history there seems to have been a need to change the female form or to modify it in some way. If you look back to the Elizabethan times, their huge wide skirts and flat fronts made women look like cardboard cut-outs. The skirts were so wide they would have to turn sideways to pass through doorways. Later there came differing amounts of bust enhancement, hip or bottom enhancement, waist constriction and wide skirts, as well as all the many variations in sleeve styles, neckline and collars, overskirts, underskirts, I could go on forever.
The earliest known control wear appearing during the 16th Century were called ‘pavre of bodies’ which contained the upper torso in the shape of a cone or cylinder. These forms later became the more familiar ‘stays’ which were made of wood or whale bone. The idea was to level the front of the body and in doing so push up the breasts so they bulged out of the top of the bodice. During one phase of the more promiscuous 18th century period, the nipples were encouraged to peep out, no doubt to titillate the male desire. Illegitimate babies were the norm and not treated as disgraceful during this time.
Stays were considered an essential item to keep the figure straight by supporting the back, tightening the midriff and improving posture. The restriction at the waist prevented bending and forced women to use their legs for lifting and thereby protecting their backs. Stays survived until the late 18th century when the empire style became into fashion around 1796. The bust was contained and pushed up by short stays and the waist line was just below the bust so that the natural waist line was concealed The empire style of dress allowed for a great deal more freedom of movement for women and was greeted with delight by the young ladies of the time.
When the waistline returned to its natural position the body restriction reappeared in the 1830’s. And the term ‘corset’ was used for the first time in English. Its purpose was to cinch the waist and support the breasts. During Victorian times the ideal form was an 18 inch waist with a full wide skirt supported by hoops to the floor. Ankles could not be seen and busts were emphasised but covered with lace for modesty. The shape I guess was determined by the natural figure of the young Victoria but exaggerated to create a fashion. To obtain this line the women forced themselves into whalebone corsets which were long, extending down beyond the natural waist line thus resulting in serious body-shaping. They were laced at the back therefore a maid was required to fasten the laces as they could not dress or undress themselves. To produce a tiny waist some women would have the corset pulled so tight they could hardly breathe. This then pushed the breasts upwards and compressed the internal organs.
During this period fainting was an art and it came easily when there was no room to breathe and everything else was squashed; added to that, the night air was considered bad for your health, so evening events became hot and stuffy. As a result dancing could cause women in the most robust health to feel lightheaded so it’s not surprising women appeared to suffer from indifferent health. A corset is designed to fit around the torso to shape it to the desired fashion. Using some form of body shaper is good practice to provide that essential line for those special occasions.
During the Edwardian period at the beginning of the 1900’s the Victorian style was replaced by the new look shaped profile. The bosom was raised and large, the waist small with a large bustle at the back to create a completely unrealistic female shape. The front of the skirt went straight down to the feet and there were many flounces tiered down from the back often with trains for formal occasions which had to be picked up and held whilst walking or dancing. Later to build on this shape, leg-o-mutton sleeves were added for day wear; although for evenings low necklines and short capped sleeves were the norm. These elaborate dresses cost thousands of pounds in today’s money so that again only the wealthy could dress in this way. The average woman had to make do with home-made copies or just plain gather skirts and plain bodices.
What is Wrong with our Natural Shape?
When you see the pictures by Degas of ladies bathing you will see that they are well rounded with tummies, big bottoms and legs probably with cellulite and well developed breasts. Very few of the women would be under a UK size 16. They still wore stays but mostly I suspect it was to support the breasts rather than reduce the thighs and hips. Gok in his TV programme ‘How to Look Good Naked’ encourages women to be positive about their bodies and focuses on choosing the right clothes to accentuate their best features. His success lies in the fact that after they have gone through this transformation, the women all feel much more confident and happy with the way they are.
However choosing the right foundation garments is essential to improve posture and create a smooth line to provide a good basis to make the most of the clothes that are placed on top.
Modern Control Wear – What Spanx can do for you
Modern control wear offers women the option of support and clean lines, without the restriction of movement experienced with the old fashioned corset. Spanx power panties seem to be the latest rage in control wear these days. I have not actually had the pleasure myself but I remember a friend saying to me last year ‘Power Panties are wonderful’. Old fashioned corsets are still worn by some people but gradually as the younger generation feel the need for some form of support they are looking to the more modern control wear used by celebrities such as Gwenyth Paltrow, Oprah Winfrey, Kylie Minogue and even Madonna. Sarah Blakely the founder of Spanx could not find footless pantyhose to go with her cream trouser and open toed shoes. In her frustration she set out to tackle the 2 billion dollar hosiery industry. Within 2 years she had perfected a product that combined all the elements women love about underwear and changing all the elements they don’t like to provide a comfortable slim-line look with no VPL (Visible Panty Line). She started an underwear revolution selling 50,000 of her Power Panties in the first three months and revolutionised an industry that was in a ten year slump. Spanx Power Panties have put underwear back where it belongs and changed control wear forever.
Basques – Corsets on the Outside
In the more recent years of control wear there appeared a fashion accessory modelled on the old fashioned style corset but worn on the outside of the clothing. It seemed designed to show off the slim torso and enhance the breasts by lifting them. These were usually worn over a flimsy blouse type top, and were fashionable over the Christmas party period. The bodice was boned and came to a point at the front just below the waist. It could be worn with a skirt or even over trousers. You can have Spanxs fishnet tights combined with control panty that slim your tummy, thighs and rear.
This model of corset is still available as underwear and is known as a ‘corset basque’ or a ‘busk’ and is reminiscent of the dress bodices seen in cowboy films worn by ‘the heart of gold’ hostess at the town’s hotel saloon. They are boned and shaped to create the traditional hour glass figure and are similar to the Victorian corset. Some are laced at the back but with no maids, very difficult to do up. There are high cut legs and longer lines, often with suspenders so create that popular striper-gram look. The Basque corset is often seen in shops selling erotica or Gothic fashions.
Some essential points to consider when wearing control wear are:- uplifting pants will firm the bottom; Padded bra’s will enhance the breasts; a padded plunge gives a great cleavage; corsets and waist nippers will take inches off the waist but most importantly, if flesh should escape at waist or thigh it means your control wear is too tight.A good basic outline will enhance any clothes that are worn whatever the occasion.
Conclusion
When you look at the history of fashion it seems that women are never satisfied with the shape they were born with. Today more than in any other time in history we are allowed to have a more normal shape, but even that has to be contained, smoothed, uplifted or cinched to make the female body more than perfect. There are now several programmes on TV which are promoting the message that natural is good and we are fine the way we are. A little augmentation here and there to make the most of the assets you have is as much as you need to do. It is reported that men in general prefer women to look real which for them is sexier than the extravaganza women think men want. Obviously they have their preferences for type and size and shape, but we can’t be all things to all men and the sooner women realise that, the more comfortable they are going to be.
Since the appearance of Power Pants control wear lingerie has been transformed. Sarah Blakely has been described as the Pied Piper of the ‘wobbly bits brigade’ and her success has reached £250 million in global sales in the last year. Her products have become ‘the control wear to have’ and are worn by all the ‘best people’. There is a stigma for men wearing control wear so that they will not go out and buy such an item but wives and girlfriends are doing it for them. Manx the male version of Spanx is available on line and is promoted as a back support while playing golf, being good for posture and long car journeys.
At the end of the day we all want to look our best and if that means wearing a control wear garment that is what people will do. People both men and women want to be liked and admired and all the fashion contortions are just to fulfil our dreams of being the chosen one, the most beautiful or most popular. So however much we might like to believe we don’t need these devices, we all pay homage to them in one way or another.
Stressed With Debt?
October 9, 2009 by JoelC2009 · 4 Comments
Summary
This article examines the causes of debt , most of which stems from unplanned incidents within the home. Despite what many might think, it is hardly ever a matter of rampant overspending.
You might have considered sensibly budgeting the family finances in a proper manner and then WOOPS – something horrible happens to change your life and your finances fall into devastation.
It may be redundancy, ill health, injury, or even disability . Anything can happen out of the blue, and if you only have small financial reserves, then what were manageable become huge financial mountains – and just as hard to remove .
Then direct debits, standing orders and credit card payments, etc begin to be missed, threatening demands start arriving, the stress escalates and the situation becomes totally unmanageable. To begin with it appears that mail order companies and credit cards appear to be the most aggressive chased quickly by the lenders. But in the end they’ll all be knocking on your door.
It is fair to say that now and again people bring difficulties upon themselves. We are thinking about people who have an addiction gambling or even those who have a compulsive shopping problem. Saint-Louis Senegal
October 4, 2009 by JoelC2009 · 6 Comments
In the north-west of Senegal, near the mouth of the Senegal River, lies the town of Saint-Louis, capital of French Senegal from 1673 until independence in 1960.
The centre of the old colonial city lies on a narrow island in the river, measuring just 2 km (1.2 mi) long by about 400 in (1,312 ft) wide, although the modern city now sprawls on the mainland either side.
The first permanent French settlement in Senegal, Saint-Louis was founded in 1659 by French traders on an uninhabited island. Named after the French king Louis, the town commanded trade along the Senegal River, exporting slaves, animal hides, beeswax and gum arabic.
Between 1659 and 1779, the city was administered by nine different chartered companies. A Metis (Franco-African Creole) community soon developed, characterized by the famous signares. These bourgeois women entrepreneurs dominated the economic, social, cultural and political life of the city, creating an elegant urban culture with time for refined entertainments. They controlled most of the river trade and financed the principal Catholic institutions.
Louis Faidherbe became the Governor of French Senegal in 1854, and spent a great deal of money modernizing the town, including bridge building, setting up a drinking water supply, and providing an overland telegraph line to Dakar. The fortunes of the town began to dwindle as Dakar became an ever more important city. Saint-Louis’ port proved difficult for steam ships to access, and a railway between Saint-Louis and Dakar, opened in 1855, took most of its up-country trade.
Today Saint-Louis is a sleepy backwater which retains its lovely colonial architecture. In 2000 it was added to the World Heritage List, and many of its beautiful buildings are being renovated. Among the sites and monuments to see on the island are the Governor’s Palace, a fortress built in the 18th century across from Place Faidherbe, the Gouvernance which comprises the town’s administrative offices and Pare Faidherbe in the centre of town, named for the French governor.
The museum at the southern end of the island tells the story of Senegal’s history and peoples, with displays of traditional clothes and musical instruments, and there are various mosques and catholic churches to visit.
The heritage of the signares lives on in Saint-Louis today, with the festivals for which the town is famous. Fanals, a night-time procession of giant paper lanterns, takes place at Christmas, usually coinciding with the Saint-Louis Jazz Festival, the most important jazz festival in Africa. The annual pirogue race, organized by teams of fishermen from Guet-Ndar, takes place on the river and makes a vibrant spectacle.

I Just Want My Scalp To Stop Itching NOW!
August 26, 2009 by JoelC2009 · 5 Comments
going to tell you, I had itchy head itchy scalp so badly that all the white flakes on my head & shoulders from scratching would have had Bing Crosby singing I’m Dreaming of a White Christmas if he got within ten feet of me. And to make matters worse I could literally see my hair thinning before my eyes.
So, I go to my doctor and ask is there anything and I mean anything at all you can give me to keep my hair in? And of course Mr. Smart Aleck hands me a shoe box. Yeah right, thanks a lot.
What is it with me and Doctors? I mean years ago I’m having my vasectomy. No joke I’m laying on the table he’s cutting away, I’m as nervous as a cat that just jumped off a roof into a dog pound. The next thing I know I see smoke and he says oops! Of course it was a joke, but I’m telling you, at the time it was not very funny.
So anyway I have itchy head itchy scalp like mad. I’m literally scouring the internet, going to health food stores calling anyone who even acts like they care, trying to find a solution any solution.
Why? Because if you have itchy scalp you know very well what I was going through. It can dang near drive you crazy at times. And as you know it always seems to itch at the worst possible times. Like when you’re on your first date with someone you think might actually have potential. Or at a major Job interview for a job you actually would like to have. Of course, that’s when it decides to itch.
You know what I mean, when the itching starts you don’t care you just want it to stop, you just want to find a solution.
Plus me being a guy I sure as heck don’t want to lose my hair on top of it. and of course my loving wife was very nurturing and reassuring about the whole thing. She said “oh don’t worry if you go bald we’ll just sell all your turtle neck sweaters at out next yard sale”. Of course I bought into it hook line and sinker and replied “why would we do that?” And her reply “so you don’t look like a huge roll on deodorant”
With her comment in my back pocket I knew I was at my whit’s end and needed a solution that actually worked.
My research led me to the conclusion that my problem was actually caused by the inflammation from all the dang chemicals that were in my shampoo & conditioner that I was currently using. So I searched far and wide for any shampoo and conditioners that didn’t have any of the toxic chemicals that were causing my problem in the 1st place.
Like I said I went to health food stores, pharmacy’s you name it. At one store this blonde lady was so incredibly dense that I kept thinking I should design my own hair care product. Yep you got it, it would be black hair coloring to turn blondes into brunettes and the name of the product of course would be Artificial Intelligence!
After tons and tons of searching and trying all manner of things I finally found one product line that actually works. And I don’t have itchy head itchy scalp any longer. The reason it does is just like I said, it alpdoesn’t have the toxic chemicals that cause your problem in the 1st place.
Plus, my hair looks like I just stepped out of a Salon. Yeah right I heard that on a TV commercial, but my hair does look a whole lot better than it has in years that’s for sure.

Where to buy or find a Buddy The Elf Costume this year
Buddy the Elf costume like Will Ferrell is fun and funny!
If you’ve seen the movie you know Buddy the Elf is a great character and not everyone is going to be dressed as one for their costume. Funny as it seems being an elf for Halloween is a good idea as you can go to a Christmas party as Buddy the Elf also.
The only thing now is deciding what type of Buddy the Elf costume you want, super deluxe or the reasonable standard one. Let me explain the difference between the two a little.
The deluxe Buddy the Elf costume comes with the top made of green velvet with a satin lining and would be real comfy to wear for the whole evening. The pants are polyester, yellow of course and come with a belt. You also get shoe covers and a wig but no feather for the cap, not hard to find your own feather. A real nice costume can be seen below.
Buddy the Elf Deluxe Costume can be real fun for Halloween or the Christmas party for many reasons. Dress the kids up as Elves along with the wife and have grandpa and grandma dress up as Mr. and Mrs. Claus. Take a North Pole sign along and you’ve got the perfect costumes for both holidays.
Either way you go you have to watch the movie The Elf for the antics of Will Ferrell so you can get into character for the party. Have fun and enjoy!
