The Reason Why Golf Balls have Dimples
December 14, 2009 by JoelC2009 · 9 Comments
Golf balls as you know have a lovely dimpled surface. The reason for this is all to do with aerodynamics and getting the ball to fly further. Without the dimples the big hitters would not be reaching anywhere near 300 yard drives.
The original golf ball design is of course lost in the mists of time. The first recorded effort was in the early 17th century when a mixture of feathers pressed into leather was invented. This feather ball was hand crafted and expensive, so like so much else in those times the peasants didn’t get a look in.
It was only in the early 20th century that science stepped forward and created the huge advance of a dimple surface for the golf ball. It turns out that the dimples have a positive aerodynamic effect. Put simply a smooth surface passing through the air leaves a pocket of low pressure behind it and this creates drag, slowing down the ball.
Dimples stop the air pressure dropping as much, which reduces the drag so the ball flies further. They also help you achieve backspin along with the great clubs available nowadays.
The dimpled golf ball is the universally approved and recognised design but the core of course can vary. Varying the materials in the core of the ball produces balls with a range of different characteristics suitable for all levels of player from beginner to tour pro.
A good nights sleep will prepare you for your next round of golf. A memory foam mattress queen or king sized is perfect for a comfortable nights sleep. During the day a memory foam cushion helps keep a stiff back at bay. If you’re on a budget try a memory foam bed topper for great value and pressure relief.
What is a corner sauna
December 2, 2009 by JoelC2009 · 15 Comments
As time went on, and the technology involved in these rooms improved, this meant that the costs associated with the installation of the 4 person sauna rooms became much less expensive meaning that they have become far more accessible for more of the population. Thanks to the expansion of blood vessels this has meant that the complexion of the person using the infrared sauna therapy is also significantly improved, which is a feature which the cosmetic industry has been quick to capitalize on (and has charged a king’s ransom in the process Infrared saunas are not to be confused with the traditional sauna units found in many health clubs or those traditionally manufactured for some home use. These saunas promote superior detoxification, cause better circulation and assist fat cells in even deeper detoxification than typical methods.
This type of sauna uses a special light wave to penetrate and warm the body. Infrared sauna therapy is used to help improve circulation by helping blood vessels to expand, which results in lowering blood pressure. Many athletes state that they are rejuvenated after sessions in infrared buy a sauna because it helps to relieve stiff joints and sore muscles, along with very relaxing results. Constructed of flexible waterproof material that makes the unit easily transportable to any room in the house, a portable infrared sauna is energy efficient, costing about the same to operate as a hair dryer or electric tooth brush.
The personnel involved in the marketing and advertising of the various health products must have skipped the lesson in business school which identified that a long term benefit is typically more reliable and desirable than a short term one. Of course, when such products fail to live up to the benchmark which was initially promised, the consumer is left with a rather nasty taste in the mouth and so they are left feeling rather cynical about such products and services. However, if you are concerned that dry infrared saunas are little more than a toy for vain women then you can think again, because the health benefits provided by such technology is frankly incomparable. A portable infrared diy sauna cleanse your body by detoxification–when you use this kind of sauna your body will sweat a lot due to the deep, penetrating heat that comes from the infrared rays. Due to the high stress lifestyle that we have nowadays relaxing our body becomes crucial to prevent any stress related health issue.
Saint-Louis Senegal
October 4, 2009 by JoelC2009 · 7 Comments
In the north-west of Senegal, near the mouth of the Senegal River, lies the town of Saint-Louis, capital of French Senegal from 1673 until independence in 1960.
The centre of the old colonial city lies on a narrow island in the river, measuring just 2 km (1.2 mi) long by about 400 in (1,312 ft) wide, although the modern city now sprawls on the mainland either side.
The first permanent French settlement in Senegal, Saint-Louis was founded in 1659 by French traders on an uninhabited island. Named after the French king Louis, the town commanded trade along the Senegal River, exporting slaves, animal hides, beeswax and gum arabic.
Between 1659 and 1779, the city was administered by nine different chartered companies. A Metis (Franco-African Creole) community soon developed, characterized by the famous signares. These bourgeois women entrepreneurs dominated the economic, social, cultural and political life of the city, creating an elegant urban culture with time for refined entertainments. They controlled most of the river trade and financed the principal Catholic institutions.
Louis Faidherbe became the Governor of French Senegal in 1854, and spent a great deal of money modernizing the town, including bridge building, setting up a drinking water supply, and providing an overland telegraph line to Dakar. The fortunes of the town began to dwindle as Dakar became an ever more important city. Saint-Louis’ port proved difficult for steam ships to access, and a railway between Saint-Louis and Dakar, opened in 1855, took most of its up-country trade.
Today Saint-Louis is a sleepy backwater which retains its lovely colonial architecture. In 2000 it was added to the World Heritage List, and many of its beautiful buildings are being renovated. Among the sites and monuments to see on the island are the Governor’s Palace, a fortress built in the 18th century across from Place Faidherbe, the Gouvernance which comprises the town’s administrative offices and Pare Faidherbe in the centre of town, named for the French governor.
The museum at the southern end of the island tells the story of Senegal’s history and peoples, with displays of traditional clothes and musical instruments, and there are various mosques and catholic churches to visit.
The heritage of the signares lives on in Saint-Louis today, with the festivals for which the town is famous. Fanals, a night-time procession of giant paper lanterns, takes place at Christmas, usually coinciding with the Saint-Louis Jazz Festival, the most important jazz festival in Africa. The annual pirogue race, organized by teams of fishermen from Guet-Ndar, takes place on the river and makes a vibrant spectacle.

Mario Kart Wii with Wii Wheel Wii Game Review
June 29, 2009 by JoelC2009 · 5 Comments
Next time you are looking for a great addition to any family’s game night just add Mario Kart Wii with Wii Wheel-Nintendo Wii to your cart. Without a doubt you will have more hours of entertainment for your family than you ever expected. Amazingly the concept is one that is very simple. The game comes with a steering wheel known as the Wii Wheel that your Wii remote fits into and you can use to “drive” for hours.
At the beginning of the game you get to create your own driver’s license. This is how you track yourself through the races you complete and place in. As with any license it has a picture and name. These you design using the avatars that can be altered to fit your personality. The game will pull avatars from your console to be obstacles as well. Make sure to trick out your Wii steering wheel with the grips and stickers if you are getting together with friends!
Play solo or link up with people around the world online. You can line yourself up against up to 12 people online. These people are around the world which is also a neat addition.
There are various methods you can play in. Grand Prix which is like the Nextel Cup, or you can race against yourself in time trials, or ghosts which are someone else’s time where you can see how you stack up to an expert.
The next step in your journey is to choose your character where as with life you can choose to be evil or good (Baby Mario, Mario, Dry Bones, Baby Peach, Toad, Koopa Troopa, Mario, Luigi, Peach, Yoshi, Diddy Kong, Wario, Waluigi, Donkey Kong, King Boo, Rosalina, Bower, or your own little “me”). The characters are all intricate and interesting in their own way. Just as Disney did when it created it’s characters starting with Mickey Mouse, Nintendo has expanded it’s characters from the Mario series all the way back to the Mario 64 days and even earlier. These qualities they have held through today.
Your cart can be customized using wheels, rims, shape, and design. These characteristics have different ratings for speed, weight, acceleration, handling, drift, off road, and mini turbo.
Once you have chosen your car and your character it is time to pick the race you wish to run. Chose your circuit racetracks from new and old tracks, some are from Gameboy, Super Nintendo, Game Cube, Nintendo DS, and of course new tracks designed specifically for the Wii. Each of these circuits shows a map of the track on the right hand of the screen. Don’t watch that too close though or the obstacles may wipe you out. These obstacles include but are not limited to 18 wheelers and stars not to mention there is always the risk of just running off the track. These circuits each have 3 levels of difficulty beginner, medium, and expert.
You can complete the circuits for trophies and even get grades on how well you whomp the completion. This grade allows you to unlock more characters, vehicles, and options. In other words, winning is not the only purpose in this game. There are so many more facets that just what place you finish the race.
You are not resigned to be a solo player on this either. You can also play as a team. As with any real racing group, just look at Karters of America Racing Triad and how everyone while in competition works together. Join a team and compete together. Work together to achieve your goals. Or you can battle for balloons or coins, a form of go karting reminiscent to the old game of combat. Possibilities are endless, and looks like the only thing you can’t do is to make money online.
Over all I think the only group who really dislikes the Wii’s would be Washington Internship Institute, for making its name the same as the Institute’s acronym. Or maybe by this time they have resigned themselves to it and appreciate the recognition they get every time someone looks for the Mario Kart Wii with Wii Wheel.
