January 20, 2011 by · Leave a Comment

The Cryo storage tanks you noticet in labs may be useful in the storage of various gases inside their liquid forms, like oxygen, nitrogen, argon and carbon dioxide.

These cryo tanks are made under specific conditions and for usage in specific countries like Canada, Latin America, Asia and the United States. Cryo storage tanks come with varied capacities, usually capable of storing around 57000 liters (15,000 gallons).

There are larger ones that may handle up to 30000 liters (80000 gallons). Cryo tanks storing liquid carbon dioxide can handle handling 50 tons. The Cryo storage tanks in labs come in three types: liquid/gas, gas only and liquid only.

The interior vessel for most of these cryogenic storage tanks in labs features SA-240-304 RT-1, comparable to the full radiographic examination. The manway is huge, having a 16-inch welded diameter that’s completely sealed to help keep out air.

The inside within the Cryo tank consists of stainless steel nozzle necks, with measurements of Sch 40 which has a piping of Sch 10s. The tank is completely insulated with perlite right into a full vacuum, with the outside being made of durable carbon steel.

Cryo storage tanks can handle high temperature movements in addition to maintain great temperature differences involving the contents inside and also the immediate environment.

Some Cryo storage tanks in labs can be portable, making them well suited for not merely storing but availing cryogenic gases wherever they are needed easily. The Cryo tanks could also dispense the cryogenic liquid safely since they’re made such that they can’t easily burst. The bursting (frangible) disk ensures this is possible.

Cryo storage tanks can hold a tremendous level of gas at a remarkably low pressure, making them better than compressed gas storage cylinders. Additionally it is simple to handle these Cryo storage tanks.

Difference between Stainless Steel, Propane and Electric Grills

December 6, 2009 by · 2 Comments

For people who are familiar with grilling, they would agree that cooking with a charcoal grill is more than just turning on a switch. Despite the difficulties, a lot of people still favour the good old fashion charcoal grill.

Many people feel that the flavour imparted by grilling with charcoal is worth a little extra time and difficulty. Most often, what makes people not mind the effort of using a charcoal grill outdoor is the distinct smoky flavour that can only be produced by this type of grill.

Charcoal grills are usually harder to use compared to gas grills because of the unpredictable temperature control but there are many people who swear by charcoal when grilling their favourite foods.

Stainless Steel Charcoal Grill

A stainless steel charcoal grill is ideal if you need your grill to be portable. Being ultra lightweight, it is very convenient to just pack away. However, it would also have limitations in terms of capacity. There may be a need to have several batches of burgers and hot dogs before a bigger group can be satisfied with their meal.

Propane Gas Grills

A popular alternative to the charcoal or propane gas grills for the outdoor would be the electric grills.

Outdoor Electric Grills

These grills have gained a lot of attention over the last couple of decades as being an efficient and safe way to grill all sorts of foods.

Electric grill can provide quick and easy options for enjoying the taste of grilled food minus the mess. There is no need to clean up unlike using a charcoal grill.

For people with plenty of space and who love to cook in the backyard, there are electric grills that will easily prepare meat and vegetables for twelve or more people at one time. Otherwise, electric grills will take up very little floor space and still be able to prepare food for three to four people at a time. This is most ideal for anyone with a small patio or deck.

The biggest limitation the outdoor electric grill is that you would need a power source for it to work.

Chiller Evaporators

September 17, 2009 by · 7 Comments

The chillers evaporator is a heat exchanger that transfers heat from a process or air conditioning water circuit to the chillers cooler liquid refrigerant. Most air cooled chillers in the UK chiller hire market will be fitted with a shell and tube evaporator, a plate heat exchanger evaporator or a coil in tank evaporator. A shell and tube evaporator is used primarily on chilled water applications. When a chiller is fitted with this type of evaporator the chillers cool liquid refrigerant flows through tubes encased in a shell.

The process or air conditioning circuit water fills the shell flowing around the tubes. As heat is transferred from the water to the chillers refrigerant the gas boils inside the tubes and the resulting vapour is drawn into the chillers compressor.

Hot water will enter the shell at one end, chilled water leaving at the opposite end.
A Plate heat exchanger evaporator can be used for chilled water or fluid cooling applications. Stainless steel evaporators are especially suited in food and beverage applications such as batch cooling or potable water systems.

A coil in tank evaporator comprises a coil block, usually copper, with aluminium fins to provide an efficient heat transfer surface. The coil block is then submerged in a chilled water tank which acts as a thermal buffer for the refrigeration system. This type of coil is suited to hire chillers used on process cooling applications, typically reactor cooling systems in chemical cooling, petrochemical cooling & pharmaceutical cooling systems.

Air Cooled Chiller Condensers

The condenser is a major component of a water chiller. The condenser is a heat exchanger that rejects heat from the chillers refrigerant to air. Some chillers are water cooled. A Water cooled chiller gives up its heat into relatively cool water from a cooling tower, air-blast cooler or adiabatic cooler. A typical air cooled condenser fitted to an air cooled water chiller will use axial fans (propeller type) to draw outdoor air over a finned tube heat transfer surface (heat exchanger).

The temperature difference or “delta T” between the hot refrigerant gas that is flowing through the condenser and the cooler outdoor air induces heat transfer. The heat reduction of the chillers refrigerant vapour causes it to condense into liquid. The last part of the chiller condenser is called a sub-cooler. The chiller sub-cooler reduces the liquid gas temperature still further, under its condensing temperature. The air cooled chiller is best suited to chiller hire applications. Chiller hire projects require systems to be delivered and installed quickly with the minimum of fuss.

Choosing the Right Kitchen Backsplash

June 13, 2009 by · 4 Comments

When designing and selecting materials for your new kitchen backsplash, consider functionality along with beauty. Maintenance is a turnoff for many homeowners. Once installed, they want it to take care of themselves. Materials such as ceramic or porcelain tile, stainless steel, glass and stone can be crafted into beautiful backsplashes that require little or no maintenance. Altering how an older backsplash appears or designing one from scratch serves as a quick and efficient method of brightening up your kitchen without extensive work.

When selecting a kitchen backsplash, it is important to consider the kinds of fixtures, not appliances, you have in your kitchen. Since the appliances will be replaced over time, they are less essential to bear in mind. The fixtures, being more permanent items in the kitchen, are important to remember. A tile or tint of glass may match a paint color in the room, but if it clashes with the finish on a light or cabinet door fixture, the work will not look professionally done.

A desirable aspect concerning the use of tile as a backsplash is the large selection of colors, sizes, shapes and textures that are available. You could even request a custom painted tile job to match any design theme you have or want in your kitchen. Also, tile is easy to install and clean. Multiple experts of design suggest that if you have a tiled floor then you should choose the same tile for your kitchen backsplash in a smaller size. This simplifies things if you have trouble making design decisions. Similarly, if you have a natural stone countertop, continuing the counter up the wall makes a simple, consistent backsplash in your kitchen. Stone does require occasional resealing, but the small amount of maintenance is made up for in the beauty of stone. For country kitchen styles, metal backsplashes work very well. Fixtures in the room should be noted when selecting appropriate metal tiles so they do not clash with one another.

Trendy choices are available, as well. Stainless steel backsplashes create a modern, sleek look in your kitchen. This might be one case where considering the appliances could be important. Stainless steel refrigerators, stoves and dishwashers are common and in style. Stainless steel backsplashes act to compliment these appliances. One fresh design trend used everywhere these days, including kitchen backsplashes, is glass. It is often a good decision to install glass tiles to extend all the way up to the cabinets from the counters. Glass is easy to maintain and is scratch resistant. With the numerous choices on the market, you should find no limitations in selecting just the right material and style for your kitchen.

How to choose a Hammock

May 8, 2009 by · 5 Comments

Most everyone loves the idea of relaxing in their backyard or campsite on a hammock.  But selecting the correct hammock for your use can be a bit challenging.  Hammocks come in a wide variety of sizes, types and materials which are suited for different uses.  For example, the material could be cotton, polyester or canvas.  While the cotton hammock is most suited for indoor use and occasional outdoor use, the polyester hammock will stand up to almost any weather conditions with no problem.  The cotton rope hammock is generally the most popular although the rope does not wear well over time if exposed to the constant outdoor environment.  From personal use, I’ve always found the polyester hammocks can be bit warm during hot summer days.  The rope hammocks allow a soft breeze to flow over your entire body.

Another consideration is the amount of space you have to dedicate to your new hammock.  If planning for use on a deck or patio, you might consider the new hammock chairs or swings.  Although the hammock chairs are not as comfortable as the standard rope hammocks, they offer the ease of hanging from a single rope and take up much less space.  All true hammock chairs are made to be hung from an overhead support.  Many times a porch roof beam or overhang will do the job.   But as popularity has grown, some manufacturers have created stand-alone hanging systems which enable you to move your hammock chair into more open areas. They are also much more stable and might be a good option for use by children or the elderly.

If your deck is large enough, you might consider using a full size hammock installed in a hammock stand.  Hammock stands might be made of wood or steel.  The wood hammock stands offer a great durable and classy option and contributes to the overall appearance of your hammock.  The drawback as you might expect is generally the wood hammock stand are a bit more expensive.  It is easy to find package deals which includes hammock and stand.  This of course makes the selection process a bit easier.

Create the honeycomb core by selectively bonding layers

April 26, 2009 by · 10 Comments

Honeycomb type core contributes nothing to the stiffness of a structural sandwich panels construction other than to make the two faces function as a unit. The stiffness, EI , of a given construction is therefore based entirely upon the physical properties and dimensions of the two faces. Honeycomb cores are used in the fabrication of lightweight structures. The core material is typically ‘sandwiched’ between skins and plywood, aluminum, FRP composite material, steel, granite, solid surface materials, paper etc.

Honeycomb cores are made by selectively bonding layers of scored material and then expanding the stack to produce a regular cellular structure. Alternative routes for their manufacture include corrugation followed by bonding and the extrusion of thermoplastics. Honeycomb lightweight aluminium panels are used extensively for flooring in both military and commercial aircraft. Typically, commercial aircraft flooring is about 1cm thick and is made of glass or carbon fibre reinforced epoxy skins with a Nomex honeycomb core.

Thus, since no difference in pressure is made between the inside and the outside of the sandwich panel, the front and rear surface layers are prevented from being damaged or removed from the honeycomb core. As a result, the sandwich panel with high durability can be obtained. Thus the panels are widely used in many industrial and commercial applications of the day-to-day life such as lightweight trailer panels. Thus, each panel possessing some different characteristics suitable for that particular environment. The panel itself is reversable and symmetrical so don’t worry about installing it backwards.
